Professor Bernard Kumi
Boateng – Board Chairman
Prof Bernard Kumi-Boateng is a Geomatic Engineering professor with over 15 years of teaching and research experience. He is known for his expertise in using Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing in land and compensation surveys, environmental management, resettlement action plan and spatial statistics.
Prof Kumi-Boateng holds degrees in BSc Geomatic Engineering and MSc Environmental Systems from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Mines and Technology (KNUST) Ghana, MSc Geo-Information Science from the International Institute for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC), Enschede, Netherlands and a PhD in Geomatic Engineering from the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Ghana.
He is a member of the International Association of Engineers, Canadian Institute of Geomatics, American Society for Photogrammetry & Remote Sensing, African Association of Remote Sensing of the Environment, Licensed Surveyors Association of Ghana, Ghana Institution of Surveyors, and the Ghana Institution of Engineers.
He is a reviewer of the Newton Prize- UK National Commission for UNESCO (2020 to date), Visiting Professor-University of the Gambia, Reviewer-Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Programme, External Examiner-Masters and PhD candidates at KNUST, External Assessor of publications for promotions, External Member-Appointment and Promotions Board of Takoradi Technical University, Member-WAEC Council 2019-2021, Member-international Examinations Committee of WAEC 2014-2021, Member-International Final Awards and Examiners Appointments Committee of WAEC 2016-2019, and a Member of the Editorial Board, International Journal of Remote Sensing Applications.
His notable works include Resettlement Plan, blasting effect on communities, fly rock incidence study, waste stockpile surveys, and Topographic. Farm Surveys -AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine Site, Concession Dispute Surveys- Pampe Mine Site, Electrical pole coordinates confirmation- Perseus Ghana Ltd, Boundary Demarcation -Goldfields Ghana Ltd, and Road Surveys- Bekwai.
He has received several awards for his commitment to research and administrative excellence, including World Bank Funding to participate in the First Partnership for Skills in Applied Sciences, Engineering and Technology (2016); DAAD Funding to participate in the 3rd Workshop of TrainIQA on Quality Assurance of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education Institutions (2015); The Netherlands Fellowship (NFP) for training in Image Process and Analysis at ITC (2015).
